I am doing an industry analysis on the trucking industry for a school project. I've got a ton of info from the web, and have met with a regional carrier, but I haven't gotten the most important feedback--from drivers. I would greatly appreciate your taking a minute to answer some or all of these questions.

Thank you very much for your help!

----------------------------
Are you an owner/ operator or do you drive for a carrier?

How big a fleet does your company have (tractors/trailers)

How long have you been a driver?

How often do you drive?

Do you always drive the same rig?

Do you always take known routes?

Hardest part of the job?

Do you regularly perform pre-trip inspections? If no, why not?

Do you currently use telematics (Qualcom, Aether, etc)? If so what do you like and dislike about the system? What would you like to see added/ removed?

How do you feel about telematics in general?

What other electronics are in your rig?

What prevents you from logging more miles?

How much time are you working and not driving? Why?

How have the new HOS regulations affected you?

How much of your time is spent filling out regulatory docs (logbooks, etc)?

How much of your time is spent at inspections?

What do you think are the biggest contributors to the high driver turnover rate?

Anything else you want to add?

This post (which did not come from a registered DieselBoss forum user) seems to be asking for information that smells like market research rather than a "student" but we leave that up to you whether you want to answer or not.

We just wanted to verify that isn't from the "Boss."

Best to you and yours from Dieselboss.

Dieselboss,

I am the one that posted the question in the General Trucker Discussion forum, under the handle “Phoenix”.

I can appreciate your skepticism, but I assure you this is for a school project, and I am a student. I am an MBA student at Arizona State and we are developing a business plan for a new product idea… so I guess this is kinda market research. We want to make sure that the product ideas that we are “scheming up” are viable options for the industry—and who would know better than drivers!?

Any help that you and/ or other drivers could give is greatly appreciated!

Thanks again for your help!

PS- I didn't know I needed to register before- it let me post w/out registering. I am registered now.

Sounds good to us Phoenix.

Hopefully you can appreciate that we are very protective of the drivers, their privacy, and how they are treated at DieselBoss. I wanted to assure them that it was not us "polling" for market information as that is not the purpose of the dieselboss forum. Your purpose sounds legitimate and anything that helps the drivers in the long run is important to us and good for the industry.

Good luck in your quest. By the way - we allow you to read, vote, and post messages without registering in most of the forums. Just not reply to a string without registering.
